The agenda for Xi’s visit encompasses discussions on pressing global issues, notably the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, alongside deliberations on infrastructure projects that promise to further cement the economic partnership between Beijing and Budapest.
Notably, Hungary stands out as an important ally for China within the European Union, steadfast in its commitment to bolstering economic and political relations despite wavering sentiments among other EU member states.

Under Orbán’s leadership since 2010, Hungary has actively courted Chinese investment, resulting in significant ventures such as the €7.3 billion battery factory being constructed by CATL in Debrecen and the establishment of Chinese electric car maker BYD’s first European plant in Szeged.

Xi Jinping’s visit to Hungary, along with his article published in the pro-government Hungarian media celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Hungary, suggests a strengthening of ties between the two countries.
