Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has undergone a significant change in its nomination for the crucial post of National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairmanship.

The PTI leadership, which initially put forward Sher Afzal Marwat for the position of PAC chairmanship, has now finalized Sheikh Waqas Akram instead, according to sources.

The decision to withdraw Marwat’s nomination was reportedly reached during a pivotal political committee meeting, orchestrated by PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan and Senator Shibli Faraz.

During this gathering, the name of Sheikh Waqas Akram was proposed as Marwat’s replacement, marking a noteworthy shift in the party’s stance.

However, amidst this development, Marwat has raised objections, claiming that he was neither invited to nor consulted about the political committee meeting where his nomination was reconsidered.

Marwat, a prominent figure within PTI known for his candid and at times controversial remarks, has been a focal point of attention within the party due to his outspoken nature and past conflicts with fellow members.

The initial announcement of Marwat’s nomination came from PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, who revealed the decision on April 30.

Khan, echoing the endorsement of PTI founder Imran Khan, had expressed confidence in Marwat’s suitability for the PAC chairman role, indicating a seemingly firm stance within the party at that time.

“All disputes are over [now] as the party has picked the name of Marwat for the slot,” said the PTI chairman during his interaction with journalists in Rawalpindi.
