Addressing Farmers’ Concerns:

CM Nawaz, speaking during the meeting, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting farmers in Punjab.

She highlighted the availability of comprehensive resources to assist them in their agricultural endeavors, acknowledging the pivotal role farmers play in the nation’s economy.

Protest Background:

The protests, spearheaded by Kissan Ittehad Pakistan, stem from farmers’ discontent over the extended delay in grain purchases and the reduction of the provincial procurement quota from over 4 million tonnes to 2.3 million tonnes.

Farmers argue that these measures have adversely affected their livelihoods and demand fair treatment in the procurement process.

Clashes and Police Intervention:

The protests reached a climax as demonstrators gathered at the GPO Chowk on The Mall and attempted to march towards the Punjab Assembly.

However, their progress was halted by a heavy police presence, which deployed containers to block roads and made several arrests.

Tensions escalated as protesters clashed with law enforcement, underscoring the intensity of the farmers’ grievances.

Government Response and Relief Measures:

As CM Maryam Nawaz unveils farmer support initiatives amid protests, the provincial cabinet approved financial aid of one million rupees for households affected by landslides in rural areas of Murree.

Furthermore, the cabinet greenlit the restoration of free medication provision for cancer patients, recognizing the critical importance of accessible healthcare for all citizens, especially those battling serious illnesses.
