Opposition calls PECA a ‘fascist and tyranical’ ordinance

In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, opposition leaders called the Prevention of Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Ordinance, 2022 a “fascist and tyranical” measure.

Following a meeting between PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif, the two parties issued a joint statement. PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari and JUI’s Maulana Asad Mahmood were also present at the meeting.

The leaders had a “vital conversation” regarding their plans to submit a no-confidence motion against the PTI government, according to the statement.

All of the leaders agreed that inflation was “burning” the people’s homes and that the only way to save them was to send the existing government home.

The leaders also expressed concern about “cheating and lawlessness” in the country, according to the statement. It claimed that the government had failed to rescue lives, property, and meet the people’s fundamental necessities.

In a statement, the Opposition leaders warned, “We will wrest power from the politicians who are taking freedom of the press and expression.”

According to the statement, Asif Ali Zardari, Shahbaz Sharif, Fazlur Rehman, and Bilawal have agreed to meet tomorrow. A meeting of the three parties’ top leadership will be placed at Shahbaz Sharif’s residence tomorrow (Wednesday) afternoon, according to the statement.
