Lahore court issues arrest warrant for Meesha Shafi

A Lahore court issued arrest warrants for singer Meesha Shafi and journalist Maham Javaid on Monday, expressing its disgust with their “hide and seek” behavior in the harassment case against singer Ali Zafar.

Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Murtaza voiced his displeasure with Meesha Shafi and Maham Javaid’s repeated absenteeism from case hearings in a comprehensive four-page ruling. He claimed that both Meesha and Maham were mocking the law and that their lack of interest in the matter was harming the trial process. He also turned down their requests for an exception and a pleader.

The court also dismissed the exemption petitions made by musician Ali Gul Pir and actress Leena Ghani, citing that they did not mention the statute anywhere in their petitions.

“The Twitter account they used to organize the anti-Ali Zafar campaign is still live. “Both Ali Gul Pir and Leena Ghani have admitted to uploading tweets from that account before the court,” it claimed.

The matter was then adjourned to March 19, 2022, by the court.
