NAB files Gujrat kickbacks reference against Parvez Elahi and Moonis. Pakistani authorities are intensifying efforts to hold PTI President Parvez Elahi and his son Moonis Elahi accountable, as the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) recently filed a corruption reference amounting to 1.23 billion rupees against them.
This move comes amidst a series of existing cases against the father-son duo.
The NAB lodged the graft reference at Lahore’s accountability court, concluding an investigation into alleged kickbacks associated with development projects in Gujrat.
Pervaiz Elahi and Moonis Elahi are identified as the principal accused in this corruption case.
According to the NAB, the charges revolve around the misuse of public office, acceptance of bribes, and the facilitation of illicit approvals for 116 schemes in Gujrat.
The anti-graft watchdog contends that these alleged corrupt practices inflicted a financial loss exceeding 1 billion rupees on the national treasury.
Specifically, Pervaiz Elahi, during his tenure as chief minister, is accused of receiving bribes and kickbacks. Moonis Elahi is implicated in assisting his father in obtaining unlawful approvals and reaping financial gains.
The NAB alleges that, under the PTI government, Pervaiz Elahi received 744.5 million rupees in bribes, with kickback funds being deposited into family accounts by Moonis Elahi’s accountant.
Further details reveal that Pervaiz Elahi, who faced previous detention for dissent-related charges, deposited over Rs304 million in their personal accounts.
The NAB is urging the accountability court to initiate a trial and impose sentences on the accused individuals named in this corruption reference.
As NAB files Gujrat kickbacks reference against Parvez Elahi and Moonis, the legal proceedings are expected to shed light on the alleged financial improprieties and determine the appropriate consequences for those involved.
