IHC acquits Nawaz Sharif in Avenfield case. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) announced the acquittal of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Avenfield case. The verdict was delivered by a division bench consisting of IHC Chief Justice Aamir Farooq and Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb.

This ruling comes in response to the appeal filed by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo challenging his conviction in both the Avenfield and Al-Azizia Steel Mills cases.

The Avenfield case, which involved the Sharif family’s apartment in London, resulted in a 10-year sentence and a £8 million (Rs1.29 billion) fine for Nawaz Sharif in July 2018.

Subsequently, in December 2018, he was handed a seven-year sentence in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption reference.

The Islamabad High Court’s decision also marks the disposal of the Flagship graft reference against Nawaz Sharif, as the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) withdrew its petition following the acquittal in the case.

Regarding the Al-Azizia case, the IHC bench has adjourned the hearing, stating that the Registrar Office will announce a date for the next hearing.

Expressing his gratitude, Nawaz Sharif, speaking to the media outside the IHC, thanked Allah Almighty for the overturn of his conviction.

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif congratulated his elder brother on his acquittal in the Avenfield case. He also commended Maryam Nawaz for her resilience in the face of oppression.

The legal proceedings and subsequent acquittal have garnered attention both nationally and internationally, reshaping the political landscape in Pakistan.

As IHC acquits Nawaz Sharif in Avenfield case, the development will likely have significant implications for Nawaz Sharif’s political future and the dynamics of the Pakistani political scene.
