Sarwar, who is currently associated with the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) as its chief organizer, had parted ways with the PTI during the tumultuous no-confidence motion in April of the previous year that saw the ousting of PTI chief Imran Khan from the prime minister’s office.
Sources reveal that Sarwar has been actively reaching out to PTI leaders from his base in Scotland over the past two weeks, exploring avenues for his return to the party fold.
However, it seems his efforts have met with a lukewarm response from the PTI leadership. A senior PTI official indicated that the decision to allow Sarwar’s re-entry lies solely with Imran Khan, who has made it clear that he will not forgive those who stood against him during challenging times.
The motivation behind Sarwar’s desire to rejoin the PTI appears to be rooted in familial political ambitions. Sources close to Sarwar suggest that his family members, particularly his son Anas, are eyeing PTI tickets for elections in Faisalabad, as PML-N ranks reportedly offer no available seats.
Additionally, Anas Sarwar, the Scottish Labour leader, faces an upcoming election in Glasgow, where a significant Pakistani vote could play a crucial role.
When questioned about his efforts to rejoin the PTI, Sarwar neither confirmed nor denied the reports but stated, “All options are on the table. Discussions at various levels are ongoing. I have not made a final decision yet. I will make the final decision soon.”
This political maneuver follows Sarwar’s earlier stint with the PTI, which began in 2015 when he criticized the Sharif family and subsequently resigned as Punjab governor.
Despite a brief departure, he was reappointed to the post when the PTI came to power in 2018. Sarwar’s political journey also includes a recent stint with the PML-Q, where he assumed the role of chief organizer in March of this year.
The PTI’s apparent reluctance to entertain Sarwar’s return suggests internal complexities and a lingering distrust stemming from his past defection.
