Gautam Gambhir rejoins KKR. Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has officially parted ways with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) IPL franchise, opting to make a triumphant return to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), a team he previously led to two IPL titles.
The decision was formally announced by KKR’s CEO Venky Mysore, who disclosed that Gambhir would be taking on the role of mentor for the team.
The return of Gambhir to KKR was met with enthusiasm by the franchise’s co-owner, Shah Rukh Khan, who characterized it as the ‘homecoming’ of their erstwhile captain.
Gambhir, who had served as the mentor for Lucknow Super Giants for the past two years, played a pivotal role in guiding the team to the final in the 2022 edition of the IPL.
However, despite finishing third in the league standings in the 2023 campaign, LSG fell short of securing a spot in the final for the second consecutive season.
The announcement of Gambhir’s departure from LSG came through an emotional post on Twitter, where he expressed gratitude to players, coaches, support staff, and all individuals who contributed to his memorable journey with the franchise.

Simultaneously, in another social media post, Gambhir revealed his return to the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Speaking about his comeback, the former captain shared a heartfelt message, expressing that slipping into the purple and gold jersey again invoked strong emotions.
He conveyed his eagerness to return not only to KKR but also to the vibrant city of joy, Kolkata. Gambhir declared his hunger and readiness for the new chapter, signing off with the iconic declaration, “Ami KKR.”
Shah Rukh Khan, in response to Gambhir’s return, expressed his delight at having the former captain back as a mentor.
He emphasized Gambhir’s integral role in the KKR family and looked forward to the duo, along with Chandu Sir, instilling the indomitable spirit and sportsmanship that they are renowned for.
The actor and co-owner concluded with anticipation, stating that they eagerly awaited the magic Gambhir would create with Team KKR in his new capacity.
