ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Fawad Hussain has stated that the corrupt opposition leadership’s attempt at no-trust will fail because “they will end up in jail for their robbery and plunder of national wealth.”
The Pakistan Democratic Party (PDM), the anti-government opposition alliance, declared last week at a press conference in Islamabad that it would file a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government.
“They could submit a no-confidence motion if they manage to save themselves from corruption cases,” the minister said at a post-cabinet meeting media briefing on Tuesday. “But I do not envisage such such action because they would be in jail before their misadventure.”

Fawad claimed that the opposition had made 13 failed efforts to overthrow the democratically elected government in the past, and that their latest attempt would be no different.
The opposition, which included the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), had been consigned to the provinces, he claimed.
They have banded together not to overthrow the government, but to thwart the ongoing accountability campaign aimed at recouping national riches taken by them, he said, adding that the prime minister’s prediction that all the crooks would band together when the law was applied to them had come true.
They are the leaders in question, according to the minister, who have “no political future ahead of them.”
He emphasized the government’s desire for a live broadcast of significant corruption cases so that the public and media could see how the wrongdoing was carried out in a methodical manner.
As a result, Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib would introduce a resolution in the National Assembly calling for a full debate on a live broadcast of opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif’s case, he said.
Fawad went on to say that the cabinet had voiced deep worry over the claims leveled against important figures, particularly women, as well as campaigns on social media and on some television channels, calling for effective legislation to avoid such abusive culture.
He concluded by saying that the cabinet members praised Prime Minister Imran Khan for the federal government’s free distribution of the Covid-19 vaccination costing Rs127 billion.
