According to the tournament rules, the top four teams in the points standings will advance to the semifinals. India currently holds the top spot, followed by Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa in the second, third, and fourth spots, respectively.
Following Pakistan, Afghanistan is ranked sixth after defeating Pakistan on October 23.
How can Pakistan still qualify for World Cup 2023 semis?
Four more games between the team green and New Zealand, South Africa, Bangladesh, and England remain. Pakistan must win all four games in order to advance to the semifinals because they will then have 12 points in the standings.
Furthermore, Babar Azam and company will easily advance to the semifinals if Pakistan wins all four of its games and Australia loses two of its remaining five matches.
However, if Pakistan loses just one game, their chances of moving on to the next round will be reduced because, if they lose, England and Bangladesh will overtake them in the standings.
If Pakistan loses more than two games, their World Cup campaign is over.
