Nawaz Sharif’s sentence suspended in Al-Azizia reference

Bring people to welcome Nawaz Sharif and get Honda 125: PMLN

Nawaz Sharif’s sentence suspended in Al-Azizia reference. The Punjab caretaker government has suspended the sentence of former Prime Minister and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif in an Al-Azizia reference.

According to local media, the Naqvi-led government suspended the sentence using its powers under Section 401 of the Criminal Procedure Code, as the government has the authority to suspend a convict’s sentence.

Punjab Information Minister Amir Mir confirmed the development, saying the government used its constitutional authority to suspend Mr Sharif’s sentence. Mir clarified that the incumbent government has the authority to suspend sentences but not completely.

In the Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption case five years ago, an accountability court sentenced Sharif to seven years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs1.5 billion and $25 million. He was also barred from holding any public office for a period of ten years.

As Nawaz Sharif’s sentence suspended in the Al-Azizia reference, on the other hand, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) will hear petitions from PML-N leaders today seeking the revival of his appeals in the Avenfield and Al-Azazia cases.

To hear the petitions of the ousted PM, a division bench was formed, and a two-judge bench comprised of Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb will hear the cases today.

On the other hand, the triumphant return of Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) supremo Nawaz Sharif became a hotbed of misogynistic remarks that mocked Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf’s female supporters.

Disgusted and dissatisfied, the Karachi chapter of the women’s rights movement Aurat March took to platform X (formerly known as Twitter) on Saturday to condemn the deposed former Prime Minister for his sexist remarks delivered during the procession of the Minar e Pakistan.
