Shahid Latif, one of India’s most wanted terrorists, was killed today in Pakistan’s Sialkot by unknown gunmen. Latif was a key conspirator in the 2016 Pathankot terror attack, which killed seven security personnel.

Shahid Latif was killed inside a mosque, according to police, and they are still looking for the perpetrators. The gunmen fled on a motorbike, and police have launched an investigation into the killing.

Latif, a Jaish-e-Mohammed member, had guided the four terrorists who carried out the Pathankot airbase terror attack from Sialkot.

The 41-year-old terrorist was accused of hijacking an Indian Airlines plane in 1999, and the Indian government listed him as a wanted terrorist in 2010.

He was arrested in Jammu in 1996 in a narcotics and terrorism case.

In 2010, he was deported to Pakistan via Wagah after serving his sentence in India. In November 1994, he was arrested in India on terror charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

On January 2, 2016, Islamic separatist Kashmiri militants attacked the Indian Air Force’s Pathankot Airbase, which is part of the Western Air Command.

In the initial battle, four attackers and two security forces personnel were killed, with an additional security force member dying from injuries hours later.

On January 2, a gun battle and subsequent combing operation lasted approximately 17 hours, killing five attackers and three security personnel.

Three more soldiers died after being admitted to the hospital with injuries, bringing the total to six soldiers.
