ISLAMABAD: The PTI-led government downplayed the announcement on Friday, saying the opposition parties lacked the required votes to oust Prime Minister Imran Khan. Minutes after the multi-party alliance, PDM, pledged to table a no-confidence motion in the National Assembly, the PTI-led government downplayed the announcement, saying the opposition parties lacked the required votes to oust Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The attendees of today’s meeting unanimously decided to launch a no-confidence motion against the “incompetent” administration, according to JUI-F chairman Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who also leads the PDM. He added that the ruling party’s allies would also be engaged in this regard.
“Today, the ‘Pakistan Corruption Limited Party’ convened in Islamabad to bring a no-confidence resolution against the government,” Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said in a video statement, referring to the PDM meeting.
“No one has the courage to initiate a no-confidence motion against [PM] Imran Khan,” he said, challenging the opposition parties to file a no-confidence move against the government tomorrow.
The minister also stated that PML-N President Shehbaz believed that such measures would shield him from being indicted in the sugar scam case by a special court on February 18. “It’s not going to happen,” he added.
Maulana Fazl has been attempting to destabilise the PTI government since the beginning, according to Fawad, “but he has no strength in his arms.”
He challenged the opposition alliance to bring the no-confidence motion, saying the ruling party’s legislators “would give them [PDM] surprise” with the help of opposition MNAs.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid reacted to the announcement by saying that the entire opposition, both inside and outside parliament, cannot topple PM Imran.
“The opposition is struggling for survival after failing spectacularly in its attempt to overthrow the government. In a statement, Rashid said, “They don’t have the requisite legislators for a [no-confidence] motion.”
The opposition parties were now “begging” for backing from the government’s allies, according to the minister.
“They [the opposition] will not file a no-confidence resolution or march on Islamabad next month,” he added.
In a tweet, State Minister for Information Farrukh Habib stated the opposition leaders’ facial expressions showed they were unable to introduce the no-trust motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
“The opposition will file a motion of no-confidence in each other,” he continued.
