Due to an increase in pink eye infection, the Punjab government has declared two-day holidays in all of the province’s schools.
Due to Friday’s Eid Milad un Nabi public holiday and the weekend’s extended school closure, students in the province will have a long weekend.
Prior to this, the Punjab government had also sent out a warning to all of the province’s schools regarding an increase in pink eye infections.
The schools must set up a “zero period” to inform students about the infection and how to stop its spread, according to a directive from the schools’ education authority.
During the zero period, it has been requested that the school teachers explain the infection’s causes and preventative measures.
Punjab announces holidays for schools from 27 September 2023 to 1 October 2023 following an increase in pink eye infection.
A warning has been released by Punjab’s Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department as the number of pink eye infections continues to rise in numerous cities throughout the province. To recover from the viral infection, which spreads through coughing, sneezing, and touching hands, it usually takes eight to ten days.
As a result of the virus infection that is causing thousands of patients to experience increased tear production, eye pain, redness, and itching, conjunctivitis is an epidemic in some areas of Pakistan.
What is pink eye virus?
The pink eye virus can be caused by viral and bacterial infections or allergies. Bacterial conjunctivitis, which is more common in school-aged children than in adults, is known to occur from December to April.
Redness, streaks, swelling, itching, or burning in the eyes are signs of bacterial conjunctivitis.
In bacterial situations, the eyelids may stay together due to increased weeping and pus discharge from the eye.
In some cases, bacterial conjunctivitis and ear infections may occur together.
However, viral conjunctivitis might appear together with cold, flu, or respiratory illness symptoms. Within a few days, it can migrate to the opposite eye from where it normally starts in one.
