Dubai announces world’s first underwater mosque. Dubai revealed plans for an underwater floating mosque worth Dh55 million.

One half of the structure will be above water, featuring seating areas and a coffee shop, while the other will be submerged below.

The world’s first such structure will have three stories, as well as an underwater deck for praying. About 50-75 worshippers will have the unique experience of praying underwater.

The mosque’s plans were revealed during a briefing on the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) of Dubai’s religious tourism project.

According to Ahmed Al Mansoori of the IACAD, building will begin “soon.”

The specific location of the mosque has not yet been disclosed. “It will be extremely near to the beach… Worshippers will be able to cross a bridge connecting to the mainland,” Al Mansoor explained.

According to Al Mansoor, the mosque will be available to individuals of all faiths, although visitors must dress modestly.

“Visitors to the floating mosque should dress modestly and adhere to Islamic tradition and customs,” Al Mansoor stated.
