PPP suspends Latif Khosa’s party membership. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) suspended prominent leader and lawyer Sardar Latif Khosa’s membership on Friday for failing to respond to a show-cause notice issued against him for breaking party policy.

According to the party spokeswoman, Secretary General Nayyar Bokhari’s membership in the Central Executive Committee (CEC) has also been suspended.

On September 14, the PPP issued a warning to Khosa for defending the leader of another political party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), without permission, and asked why he should not face consequences.

“You being a member of Central Executive Committee of Pakistan [Peoples Party] are defending/ pleading/ representing a head of another political party without prior approval of leadership in corruption cases in which he has been convicted and in a case against him under official secret Act, while delivering a speech in lawyers function you criticized the state policy regarding cipher,” said the notice.

The notice further stated that during the event, the PPP leader questioned the state policy on the cypher problem, and that Khosa’s party membership would be cancelled if no response was received within the specified time limit.

The letter did not name PTI Chairman Imran Khan, but stated that Khosa, who is also a member of the former premier’s legal team, defended the head of another party.

The notification also instructed him to answer within seven days. However, Khosa did not respond to the show-cause notice, which resulted in his suspension.

Senior lawyer Khosa and senior PPP leader Aitzaz Ahsan have been at odds with their party leaders for publicly endorsing the PTI chief’s stance on various political issues.

The PTI president is being held in judicial detention till September 26 in connection with the lost cypher – a confidential state document that the former prime minister waved during a political rally before to his fall from power last year.

Khan has been incarcerated after his August 5 conviction in the Toshakhana case for failing to properly register gifts received while in government.
