PM awards top 10 ministries with certificates of appreciation

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan presented certificates of appreciation to the top ten federal departments on Thursday.

The prime minister, speaking at a ceremony in Islamabad, said that no system can succeed without a reward and punishment structure.

“This [certificates] is a great opportunity for everyone to know how they [the ministries] are performing,” PM Imran said, adding that he hoped that the performance of the ministries will improve during the remaining tenure of the government.

“Performance assessment is very imperative to bring improvement in the bureaucracy,” he said. “The government is fully focusing on ensuring good governance and the main objective is to improve the lives of the people,” he added.

Employees of the best-performing ministries would receive bonuses and additional allowances, according to Imran.

The premier also proposed evaluating the qualitative performance of ministries and giving priority to those that prioritise the country’s national interest.

The ministries have set a total of 1,090 targets, of which 424 will be accomplished this year, including 207 linked to governance and 100 connected to infrastructure, he said.

Minister for Communications Murad Saeed, Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, Special Assistant on Poverty Alleviation Sania Nishtar, Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood, Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari, Minister for Industries and Production Khusro Bakhtiyar, Advisor on National Security Division Dr Moeed Yusuf, Adviser on Commerce Razak Dawood, Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid were among the ministers honoured during the ceremony

The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Establishment, Mohammad Shehzad Arbab, has already briefed the PM on the ministries’ performance.

Performance agreements were formed between the Prime Minister’s Office and federal ministries, according to the PM’s vision of good government, in which all ministries established targets.

The agreements will aid in improving performance, meeting targets on schedule, resolving public issues, formulating effective policies, and compiling data necessary for good governance.

The fundamental goal of these agreements is to assess ministry performance, impose sanctions on government personnel, and enhance service delivery.
