What is pink eye virus? A warning to District Health Officers (DHOs) has been issued by the Sindh Health Department in an effort to stop the spread of conjunctivitis in Karachi and other metropolitan regions of the province.

According to the Sindh Health Department, conjunctivitis, known as pink eye, is becoming more prevalent in the metropolis and surrounding urban areas.

The high contagiousness of acute viral conjunctivitis makes it important to concentrate on prevention while keeping an eye out for prospective cases, even though no cases have been registered.

What is pink eye virus?

This pink eye virus can be caused by viral and bacterial infections, or allergies. Bacterial conjunctivitis, which is more common in school-aged children than in adults, is known to occur from December to April.

Redness, streaks, swelling, itching, or burning in the eyes are signs of bacterial conjunctivitis.

In bacterial situations, the eyelids may stay together due to increased weeping and pus discharge from the eye.

In some cases, bacterial conjunctivitis and ear infections may occur together.

However, viral conjunctivitis might appear together with cold, flu, or respiratory illness symptoms. Within a few days, it can migrate to the opposite eye from where it normally starts in one.

Other allergy symptoms, such as an itchy nose, throat, sneezing, and even asthma, may accompany it.

Conjunctivitis caused by bacteria or viruses can spread easily and is very contagious. The danger of infection and its transmission can be greatly diminished by practising good hygiene. People are recommended to use hand sanitizer and wash their hands thoroughly with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds.

It’s important to wash your hands right away after giving affected people eye drops.
