General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has stated that Pakistan values its historical and brotherly relations with Saudi Arabia and recognises its unique position in the Islamic world, according to the military.
The army commander made the remarks at a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz Bin Saud Bin Naif Bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, according to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Monday.
According to the ISPR, the discussion focused on issues of common interest, regional security, the current situation in Afghanistan, and bilateral defence cooperation between the two countries.
Pakistan treasures its historical and brotherly ties with the Kingdom, according to the COAS, and recognises its unique position in the Islamic world.
The visiting dignitary praised Pakistan’s role in the Afghan situation, particularly its border management efforts, and its role in regional stability, according to the statement, and offered to help deepen diplomatic cooperation with Pakistan at all levels.
General Qamar was also visited by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud on December 19, who praised Pakistan’s participation in the Afghan situation.
Both parties reviewed issues of mutual importance, including regional security, Afghanistan’s current situation, and bilateral defence relations.
General Qamar commended Saudi Arabia’s leadership for organising the OIC CFM’s 17th Extraordinary Session in Islamabad, noting that the conference was critical in channelling international efforts and saving Afghanistan from looming security and humanitarian disasters.
