PPP agree to appoint Ishaq Dar as caretaker prime minister. Ishaq Dar, the current finance minister and a member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has not been ruled out as the caretaker prime minister by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
With the PPP’s Qamar Zaman Kaira stating that no politician can be appointed as a judge and vice versa, both major coalition partners have agreed that a politician should be appointed as the head of the interim set-up.
According to sources, the PML-N has decided to name Senator Dar, the finance minister, as the interim prime minister.
They informed The Asian Mirror the government committee was established to look into the matter and is consulting with all other political parties.

“In the future, if Ishaq Dar’s name is proposed, we can discuss it. The party’s senior leadership will decide over the name of the caretaker prime minister,” Kundi said.
As PPP agree to appoint Ishaq Dar as caretaker prime minister, the PPP leader said just like PML-N, every party was holding consultations within, and his party’s consultations were not over yet.
“We have not finalized anyone’s name yet.”
Kundi said a formal announcement would be made once the name is finalized.
Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal stated during Geo News show “Naya Pakistan”, that if there is agreement on Dar’s name across the board, then he could be appointed the caretaker PM.
“Whatever decision is taken, the cabinet will be taken into confidence,” Iqbal said.
On the other hand, when asked during an interview about his possible appointment, Dar did not deny it. “I have always fulfilled my duties whenever I am appointed to any position.”
Before its term expires, the government is also about to amend the Election Act 2017 Section 230, which deals with the duties of a caretaker government.
The Electoral Reforms Bill, which would substantially alter the Election Act-2017, would be separately adopted this week by the two houses of the Parliament, according to reliable parliamentary sources, who spoke to The News.
The proposed changes would give the interim administration more authority to handle significant issues of national importance in addition to day-to-day business.
Leading PPP and PML-N figures are also present in Dubai once more to talk about elections and the caretaker government. They will be joined by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam.
Muhammad Ishaq Dar is a senior Pakistani politician and chartered accountant. He is a senator of Pakistan and was appointed Finance Minister of Pakistan on 28 September 2022. Dar was born in 1950 in Lahore.
Ishaq Dar has a bachelor’s degree in commerce from the Hailey College of Commerce of the University of Punjab in Lahore, which he attended from 1966 to 1969.
