Who is Huw Edwards? One of the most well-known broadcasters in the UK is Huw Edwards, the BBC News presenter at the centre of a shocking controversy over asking a teenager for explicit pictures.

Edwards is not only regarded as trustworthy by viewers, but he is also highly regarded by the BBC, which has chosen him to cover important national events.

Edwards was scheduled to meet King Charles before the scandal broke and rumors about the presenter’s identity last week started to circulate.

His career is now under severe duress because the 61-year-old’s wife, Vicky Flind, named him as the BBC presenter facing the allegation in a statement.

In a statement that was released yesterday, Flind named Edwards as the scandal’s mastermind.

She did add, however, that Edwards had recently been hospitalized for a serious mental health episode and would address the allegations after his recovery.

In 1984, the presenter began working for BBC News as a trainee before landing a position as a political reporter for BBC Wales.

Two years later, he was appointed parliamentary correspondent for BBC Wales, and by the early 1990s, he was the BBC’s top political correspondent in Westminster.

Edwards started appearing regularly on the BBC News channel, which was first known as BBC News 24.

Big-wigs at the BBC were impressed by Edwards’ assured and cool-headed performance during those times.

The presenter, who had previously served as a sporadic cover presenter on BBC One’s “Six O’Clock News,” rose to prominence as one of the show’s primary anchors by 1999.

After being promoted to the Ten O’Clock News in 2003, his standing within the network was strengthened. He now frequently presents and provides commentary on significant national events for the network.

Some major events covered by Edwards include:

  • Wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (as they were known at the time) in 2011
  • Funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh (2021)
  • Queen’s Diamond and Platinum Jubilee (2012 and 2022)
  • Coronation of King Charles (2023)
  • Nelson Mandela’s death in 2013
  • Announcement of Brexit referendum in 2016 (co-host)
  • Announcement of the death of Queen Elizabeth II

After the monarch passed away, Edwards went to the front to cover her funeral.

The coverage was so highly praised that Edwards and his coworkers recently received a TRIC award.

In addition, the BBC broadcaster had just started using the presenter to cover the general election.

The Welsh broadcaster also earns among the highest salaries at the BBC, at about £435,000. Even in the 2012 James Bond movie Skyfall, Edwards made a brief appearance.

Edwards, however, hinted that his tenure as the company’s chief news anchor might not be long-lasting in 2021, citing the “taxing” nature of the position as a potential reason for his potential departure from the channel.

Later on in the same year, the Welsh presenter revealed in a documentary about his career that he had battled depression for more than 20 years.

He also disclosed that as a result of his battle with mental illness, he had become “bedridden”.
