Mianwali police detained an Additional Deputy Commissioner on suspicion of raping a woman.

The victim, a Lahore resident, filed a complaint with local police, alleging that she was duped into visiting the province’s northwest region. She accused the government official of attempting to entice her into marriage.

While explaining the terrible incident, authorities stated that the woman was persuaded by the perpetrator, who then sexually abused her.

As additional Deputy Commissioner was arrested for raping a woman in Mianwali, meanwhile, a case has been filed against the perpetrator, who has been sent to the City police station for additional investigation.

Sexual violence against women is a severe and prevalent issue in Pakistani society, and it is rooted in power imbalances, gender inequality, and harmful cultural norms.

Such incidents have broader cultural ramifications, damaging women’s safety and dignity, while many cases go unreported due to fear of certain standards and the ineffective justice system.

Rape is a type of sexual assault in which sexual intercourse or other forms of sexual penetration are performed on someone without their consent.

The act may be carried out through physical force, coercion, abuse of authority, or against a person who is incapable of giving valid consent, such as someone who is unconscious, disabled, has an intellectual handicap, or is under the legal consent age.

Rape and sexual assault are terms that are occasionally used interchangeably.

The term rape originates from the Latin rapere (supine stem raptum), “to snatch, to grab, to carry off”. In Roman law, the carrying off of a woman by force, with or without intercourse, constituted “raptus”.
