Lt Gen rank officer among three sacked over May 9 incidents, says DG ISPR

Major General Ahmed Sharif, the spokesperson for the Pakistani Army, reported on Monday that three high-ranking officials, including a lieutenant general, had been discharged from their positions for failing to guard military installations and garrisons on May 9 during protests.

The army has finished its accountability process following the chaos of May 9, according to the director general of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), who also announced that disciplinary action had been taken against 15 officers, including three major generals and seven brigadiers.

Following the arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case on May 9, PTI protesters damaged public properties and attacked military installations, including the home of the Lahore Corps Commander.

The military spokesperson described the May 9 incident as extremely disappointing, condemnable, and a dark chapter in Pakistan’s history at the outset of his press conference.

The shocking events demonstrated that a small group of miscreants accomplished what the enemies had been unable to do for 76 years.

The incident was referred to as a “conspiracy against Pakistan” by him.

He claimed that the findings of the investigations demonstrated that the events of May 9 had been planned for several months and that it was part of a larger strategy to incite people against the army.

He claimed that the government had evidence against them.

The DG ISPR stated that the May 9 events have angered and upbraided the veterans and heirs of martyrs.

He claimed that while Pakistani Army soldiers were risking their lives in ongoing operations against terrorists, vile propaganda was being disseminated in support of dubious political goals.

According to a spokesperson for the army, the military courts were not made operational following the events of May 9 but are now.

102 criminals are currently being tried in 17 “standing courts” operating across the nation, according to him.

He claimed that following a review of the evidence against the May 9 suspects, the civil courts turned them over to the military.

The suspects being tried in military courts, he claimed, had the right to appeal to the Supreme Court and higher courts.

Maj Gen Ahmed Sharif emphasized the need to expose and prosecute all organizers and facilitators in order to prevent similar incidents in the future.

In response to a query, he called accusations that the army and other agencies planned the May 9 incident “shameless”.

In order to prevent external threats from emerging, he urged reducing internal security threats.
