Who is Shahzada Dawood? A renowned Pakistani businessman and his son are among five persons aboard a submersible that has gone missing while excavating the Titanic debris in the North Atlantic.

According to authorities, the 21-foot (6.5-meter) tourist vessel run by OceanGate Expeditions began its descent on Sunday but lost communication with the surface less than two hours later.

According to a family statement, Shahzada Dawood, the vice-chairman of Karachi-based firm Engro, and his son Suleman were aboard the vessel, which has only 96 hours of oxygen supply.

“As of now, contact has been lost with their submersible craft and there is limited information available,” the statement read.

“A rescue effort that is being jointly led by multiple government agencies and deep-sea companies is underway to reestablish contact with the submersible and bring them back safely,” it added.

“We are very grateful for the concern being shown by our colleagues and friends and would like to request everyone to pray for their safety.”

Engro is involved in a variety of industries, including energy, agriculture, petrochemicals, and telecommunications. The company announced a revenue of 350 billion rupees ($1.2 billion) for the end of 2022.

Hussain Dawood, Shahzada’s father, is frequently named among Pakistan’s wealthiest men by the domestic press.

According to Shahzada’s Engro biography, he also serves as a trustee on the board of The Dawood Foundation, a high-known family education charity formed in 1960.

According to his profile, he was educated in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Coastguards are scanning the remote area of the North Atlantic where the Titanic rests 400 miles (650 kilometres) off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada, and some 13,000 feet (4,000 metres) underwater.

Another passenger aboard the missing craft has been identified as British businessman Hamish Harding.

Shahzada Dawood is regarded as one of Pakistan’s wealthiest individuals. He joined the Engro Corporation Board of Directors in 2003 and currently serves as Vice-Chairman. He is well-known for his efforts in developing vital international networks and contacts.

Shahzada is the Vice Chairman of Dawood Hercules Corporation, a subsidiary of the Dawood Group, and is involved in a century-old family business. He has specialized in corporate governance and the rehabilitation of businesses in Pakistan since joining the company in 1996.

Shahzada Dawood, 48, is a member of the Global Advisory Board for Prince Charles’ charity, Prince’s Trust International. He has also joined the Board of Trustees of the SETI Institute, a nonprofit research organisation in Silicon Valley near NASA Ames Research Centre.

The Dawood Hercules family business spans multiple industries, and Shahzada has been instrumental in discovering growth and innovation prospects. He has facilitated mergers, acquisitions, and divestments for publicly traded companies in energy, agri-nutrients, consumer foods, petrochemicals, and textiles.

Shahzada earned a Master of Science in Global Textile Marketing from Philadelphia University in the United States and a Bachelor of Laws from Buckingham University in the United Kingdom.

Engro Corporation issued a statement after Shahzada Dawood and his son went missing, noting that they have little information about the situation. They begged people not to speculate and asked for prayers for Shahzada, Suleman, and the other passengers on board.

Shahzada is married to Christine and has two children, Sulaiman and Alina, in the United Kingdom. They live with their cherished pets, Stig, a dog, and Proteus, a cat, in addition to their family. Shahzada enjoys photography and is well-known for his affection for animals.
