Apple to tweak iPhone autocorrect function. One of the most notable events at Apple’s developer event on Monday was probably a change made by the iPhone manufacturer to prevent its autocorrect feature from annoyingly changing one of the most common expletives to “ducking.”
Craig Federighi, Apple’s head of software, said: “The keyboard will learn it, too, for those times when you just want to type a ducking word.”
The autocorrect feature on the iPhone keyboard has occasionally replaced a misspelled word while texting with a more logical option, changing the meaning of the original phrase or sentence.
Such incidents typically result in texts that end with “damn autocorrect!” But depending on how many times one has had to rewrite their own texts or yell at their own device (the iPhone cannot correct one’s verbal epithets), the “ducking” substitution is a long-standing source of amusement or frustration.
As Apple decides to tweak iPhone autocorrect function, the company had a lot on its agenda in addition to the texting adjustment, including information on the redesign of its desktop and laptop as well as a pricey new mixed-reality headset.
Monday saw an all-time high for Apple shares, valuing the company just shy of $3 trillion, which would also be a record. The strength of the iPhone’s market share is amply evidenced by its gains of 280% over the previous five years.
Of course, iPhone users have always had the option to turn off the autocorrect feature on their phones, which would allow its foul-mouthed users to be as profane as they want.
