Ex-federal minister Ali Zaidi quits PTI. Sindh president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has resigned from the party and announced his retirement from politics, dealing another blow to embattled ex-prime minister Imran Khan.
As Ali Zaidi quits PTI, he announced his retirement from politics in a video address, citing the May 9 attacks on civic and military sites.
Imran Khan’s close aide once stated that he made the difficult decision to resign from his party post and active politics.
He severely denounced the violence against state institutions earlier this month, emphasizing that those responsible for such assaults must be held accountable. Zaidi, on the other hand, highlighted focusing on humanitarian assistance and continuing attempts to bring investment to crisis-stricken Pakistan. He concluded the video by declaring, “Pakistan Army Zindabad.”
Following the May 9 protests and harsh response, hundreds of PTI leaders were arrested under the Maintenance of Public Order legislation, including Shireen Mazari, Asad Umar, and Shah Mahmood Qureshi. Many of them were granted bail by judges multiple times but were immediately re-arrested until they announced their intention to separate themselves from the old ruling party.
In a recent incident, former federal minister Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar announced his resignation from the party in response to the May 9 vandalism. He discussed parting ways, stating it is no longer viable to follow the PTI’s principle.
Following the May 9 incident, former special assistant to Punjab Chief Minister Firdous Ashiq Awan also decided to leave the party.
Back-to-back pressers to resign from Imran Khan’s PTI were met with dismay by legal experts, seasoned politicians, and even civil society activists, with many decrying the existing situation in which politicians were unable to continue politics.
