Maleeka Bokhari quits PTI. Maleeka Bokhari, a former member of the National Assembly, said on Thursday that she was leaving the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), joining a lengthy list of leaders who left the party in the wake of the riots on May 9.
“I condemn the events that transpired on May 9. For every Pakistani, the events that took place on May 9 are very painful,” the former member of the National Assembly said in a press conference in Islamabad.
As Maleeka Bokhari quits PTI, Bokhari said she wasn’t under duress and “no one forced me into making this decision”.
“As a lawyer, I want to play a positive role in Pakistan. I also want to spend time with my family,” she said.
Maleeka Ali Bokhari is a Pakistani politician who had been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan from August 2018 to January 2023 and served as the Parliamentary Secretary for Law and Justice from September 2018 till April 2022.
She was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan as a candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in a reserved seat for women from Punjab in the 2018 Pakistani general election.
On 7 September 2018, Prime Minister Imran Khan appointed her as Parliamentary Secretary for Law and Justice.
On 25 May 2023, she left PTI by forced abduction of Establishment in jail. After releasing from Jail she conducted a press conference and resigned from all positions of Pakistan Tahreek Insaaf.
