Mark Zuckerberg, the founder, and CEO of Meta, on Monday, unveiled a new WhatsApp feature to further protect users’ most private conversations. People are curious to know what is “Chat Lock” and how to use this WhatsApp’s new feature.

While announcing the new feature through a blog post, WhatsApp said, “We think this feature will be great for people who have reason to share their phones from time to time with a family member or those moments where someone else is holding your phone at the exact moment an extra special chat arrives.”

What is Chat Lock and how to use this WhatsApp’s new feature?

1- According to Meta, this feature enables you to password-protect your most private conversations and keeps them safe in a separate folder. The sender’s name and the message’s content are hidden when you receive a message while the chat is locked.

2- When a WhatsApp chat is “locked,” the user can move the conversation thread out of their inbox and into its own folder. Additionally, it automatically hides that chat’s content from notifications.

3- By tapping the name of a one-to-one or group chat and choosing the lock option, a user can lock a chat. Users of the new app update on both Android and iOS devices will have access to the feature.

4- Only a person’s device password or biometric authentication, such as a fingerprint, can be used to access a locked chat. According to Meta, having the option to lock a chat will be very helpful for users who occasionally share their phones with family members.

5- More features will be added in the upcoming months, such as locks for companion devices and custom chat passwords, allowing users to unlock conversations using a password other than their phones.
