ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Federal Ombudsman, Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi, has summoned the chairman of the Employees’ Old-Age Benefits Institution (EOBI) to come before him on February 9 with a list of all pending complaints and a strategy to resolve them.
After being handed hundreds of allegations of carelessness against EOBI officers by President Dr Arif Alvi, the federal ombudsman took action on his own.
Poor Pakistanis who spend their lives working receive only Rs8,000 in old-age pension, according to him, and they must return to the office on a regular basis to collect it.
He went on to say that the EOBI pension system had major flaws and was in desperate need of modernization. Poor people were deprived of their rights, he said, because of the indifference of regional offices and a lack of skilled staff.
He took note of EOBI’s sluggish implementation of his office’s directions and asked the head to make recommendations for full implementation.
It’s worth noting that in the past, many large-scale complaints about this department were brought to the Supreme Court (SC), where its personnel were disciplined.
