Police sought ban on PUBG game after addict shots mother, siblings

LAHORE: Punjab Police arrested an 18-year-old “Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) junkie” on Friday after he allegedly killed his mother, sister, and brother in their sleep just a few days ago.

The boy had taken the extreme step, according to investigators, because he was hooked to playing the online game. The suspect became unhappy after losing regularly in an online game and being chastised by his mother for overindulging.

“Repeated defeats in the game (PUBG) heightened my stress, and I fired shots thinking everyone would return back to life like in the game,” the suspect admitted to the cops.

The information presented to the police during the preliminary inquiry revealed that the suspect lived in complete solitude in his room and was hooked to the PUBG game.

During his stay at a hostel, Ali was introduced to the game. It had such a strong hold on his thoughts that he began to imagine a “dual life.” On January 19, while under the influence of the game, he killed his mother, two sisters, and an older brother.

The suspected killer exited the residence after committing the horrible act and hid the weapon. He was apprehended shortly after the incident, but was later freed after a few hours of interrogation to attend the funeral of a family member. He went to Jaranwala to pray, but he never returned.

According to the spokeswoman, an inquiry into all aspects of the incident is ongoing. He went on to say that PUBG is particularly detrimental for young people’s mental development since players who are used to the game engage in aggressive behaviours in order to achieve the objective.

He also asked parents to keep an eye on their children and keep them away from any harmful activities.

Many cases have been documented in the last two years, they claimed, in which children and young people infatuated with the game have demonstrated self-harming and violent inclinations.
