A woman wears 2.5kg of clothing to avoid paying the airline’s luggage fees. A flying customer disclosed a clever way to avoid paying extra luggage costs.

Gel Rodriguez became famous in 2019 after breaking the costly hand baggage rules while on vacation.

If you’re a frequent flyer, you’ll know that each airline has its own restrictions regarding how many bags you may bring on a flight for free, whether it’s one or two.

When Gel arrived at the airport, she was informed that her suitcase weighed 9kg, which was 2kg over the weight restriction.

She opted to put on some of her heaviest garments instead of paying for the extra weight.

Gel shared a comical snapshot of herself wearing at least two sets of trousers or shorts, five shirts, and three jackets, which she crammed over her attire at the moment.

The passenger, from Davao City in the Philippines, later told Vice: “I didn’t want to pay the fee for the excess baggage because it was only two kilograms (4.4lbs). If I had known it would go viral, I would have posed better.”

She went on to say others shouldn’t try it, adding: “Maybe not. It was really hot. I don’t recommend other people do it.”

After reading the story of a woman who wears 2.5kg of clothing to avoid paying the airline’s luggage fees, one person commented: “Real heroes don’t wear capes.. They wear 50 pairs of pants,” while another said: “I’ve done that too !!”

A third added: “We travel a lot. You’d be surprised how much you can fit in a carry-on personal bag for free.”

If you’re planning a vacation soon, it’s a good idea to verify your airline’s policies first, especially since the budget options have changed in recent years.

Ryanair and easyJet demand additional fees if you want to bring a cabin bag in addition to a purse, which can range from £6 to £35.99 depending on when you book.

Meanwhile, British Airways has introduced various tiers of economy tickets, each with its own luggage allowance.
