FIR of Mufti Abdul Shakoor’s death registered under murder charges

Police in the country’s federal capital have opened an investigation into Mufti Abdul Shakoor’s death, a federal religious minister who passed away in a catastrophic car accident on Saturday.

Qudratullah, a companion of Mufti Shakoor, filed the complaint, which was filed under the charges of accidental murder, excessive speeding, and car damage.

According to the FIR, the JUI-F leader was struck by a four-by-four that was traveling at 110 kph at the time of the accident and died there and then. According to the report, the minister was driving his wrecked car at the time of the crash.

On Constitution Avenue, where the top speed restriction is 60 km/h, the other car was traveling at double the pace. The accident’s preliminary report has been given to the Islamabad police chief, and additional action is being taken.

According to media accounts, a man connected to the poultry industry was a member of the squad that struck the double-cab truck.

After Mufti Abdul Shakoor’s death was confirmed, his body was moved to his hometown of Tajbi Khel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the judicial proceedings, where funeral prayers will be offered.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed sorrow and regret over Mufti Shakoor’s demise, a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said.

The premier extended his condolences to the deceased’s family and prayed for him, the statement said, adding that Shakoor was one of the “dynamic and ideological leaders” of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl and a good person.

PM Shehbaz praised his performance as the religious affairs minister.

Separately, the premier tweeted from his account that he was deeply saddened to hear about the “sudden death of my friend, colleague and an important member of the cabinet, Mufti Abdul Shakoor”.

The premier remembered him as a “practicing scholar, an ideological political activist, and a pious person”.

PTI leaders Fawad Chaudhry and Faisal Javed also extended their condolences and prayed for Mufti Shakoor.

Mufti was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan as a candidate of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) from Constituency NA-51 (Tribal Area-XII) in the 2018 Pakistani general election. He received 21,896 votes and defeated Qaiser Jamal.
