Sherry Rehman listed as Time magazine's 100 most influential people for 2023

Sherry Rehman has been listed as Time magazine’s 100 most influential people for 2023. She is Pakistan’s Minister for Climate Change.

Rehman has received attention and acclaim on a global scale for her unwavering efforts to spread awareness about the catastrophic effects of climate change on Pakistan and other vulnerable nations.

Due to the climate problem, which has primarily affected the nations that bear the least responsibility for it, more than a third of Pakistan was inundated last year. At the COP27 United Nations climate meeting in Egypt, Rehman provided a voice to those who had lost everything to the floods and persuaded many of the participants that the blatant unfairness had to end. Her fervent statements and persistent participation in discussions led to a historic choice: the creation of new loss and damage funding arrangements to aid the most vulnerable nations.

Rehman’s inclusion in the Time 100 list as a climate change champion highlights the urgent need for more people like her to address the global climate crisis. Her work in Pakistan and at international climate summits has been instrumental in raising awareness about the devastating impacts of climate change on vulnerable countries and promoting climate justice.

After Sherry Rehman was listed as Time magazine’s 100 most influential people for 2023, She said, “I am humbled and honored to be recognized on this prestigious list. Climate change is a global crisis that requires urgent action and cooperation from all countries. Pakistan and other vulnerable countries are already experiencing the worst impacts of the crisis, and it is our responsibility to take bold action to mitigate its effects and support those who are most affected.”

Rehman’s selection on the Time 100 list is anticipated to increase her visibility as a key proponent of climate justice both domestically and internationally. Her ongoing campaigns to promote climate justice and increase public understanding of the catastrophic effects of climate change on vulnerable people are more crucial than ever.
