Tando Allahyar tense amid violent protests over MQM-P activist’s murder

TANDO ALLAHYAR — Following the murder of a Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) activist, the city of Tando Allahyar in Sindh province has become tense.

Khalil-ur-Rehman, a MQM-P activist, was shot and killed outside the Tando Allahyar District and Sessions Court on Friday.

During the city’s violent protests, police arrested five MQM-P personnel for allegedly shutting down local markets.

On Saturday, a group of ladies blocked the Hyderabad-Mirpur Khas Road in protest of the arrests.

As the police used baton charges to disperse the protesting ladies, the action triggered more protests and increased tensions in the city.

On Saturday, #JusticeForKhalilurRehman was trending on Twitter as violence erupted in Sindh city.

To keep the situation under control, Tando Allahyar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) has called in reinforcements from nearby districts.
