Former MQM senator Mian Ateeq detained in Lahore

LAHORE, Pakistan — Mian Ateeq Shaikh, a former senator of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), has been detained in a case involving document falsification.

After receiving a plea from Rawalpindi police, Lahore Qila Gujjar Singh police brought Mian Ateeq into jail.

At the Ganj Mandi Police Station, a charge has been filed against the lawmaker and other accused for allegedly giving fraudulent property documents.

Since the case was filed in June 2021, all of the suspects, including the MQM boss, have been on the run.

The matter is being investigated on merit, according to a Rawalpindi police official.

From March 2015 to March 2021, Mian Ateeq Shaikh served as a senator.
