The federal government named retired Lt Gen Nazir Ahmed as the new NAB chairman on Saturday, just days after Aftab Sultan resigned from the position.
According to reports, the federal government made the appointment after reaching an agreement with the prime minister and the opposition leader.
He will remain the NAB chairman for a three-year term.
Nazir Ahmed Butt served as the 30th president of the National Defence University from April 2016 to December 2016. He also served as Pakistan’s military attaché in the US, and military secretary to the prime minister of Pakistan.
The recipient of Hilal e Imtiaz was commissioned in the 40 Frontier Force Regiment, Pakistan Army in 1983. He graduated from the Command and Staff College, and the National Defence University, Pakistan.
Prior to being named commander of the Peshawar Corps in December 2016, he was commander of the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) and commanded an infantry division in the then-Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). He was promoted to lieutenant general in 2014 and later appointed as the General Headquarters’ inspector general of Communications and Information Technology.
