As the country’s top court ordered general elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 90 days, ousted prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Imran Khan canceled the court arrest campaign dubbed Jail Bharo Tehreek.

The obstinate politician praised the Supreme Court’s decision on Twitter, saying it was the court’s duty to uphold the Constitution and it had ably done so with its decision today.

PTI chief termed the ruling as an assertion of the rule of law in the country and mentioned suspending the Jail Bharo Tehreek to move forward with election campaigns in both provinces.

In order to speak out against the infringement of fundamental rights, the former ruling party launched a court arrest movement last month. Many PTI leaders, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Azam Swati, and others, turned themselves into the authorities and are currently detained.

On the other hand, Imran Khan was granted interim bail by the Islamabad High Court on Tuesday.

In a case registered at the Secretariat Police Station, IHC Chief Justice Justice Amir Farooq heard the application and granted bail to the former prime minister until March 9. Khan was ordered by the IHC to submit Rs100,000 in surety bonds.

Earlier in the day, the sessions court in Islamabad issued non-bailable arrest warrants in the Toshakhana case for PTI Chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s continued non-appearance.

Additional Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal ordered the issuance of the arrest warrants and adjourned the hearing of the case until March 7.
