MNA seeks govt’s attention to calamity-stricken coastal areas of Balochistan

The member of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Muhammad Aslam Bhutani, urged the federal and provincial governments to announce relief packages for the primary victims of Makran and the coastal belt areas where heavy rains had severely affected people’s lives. The recent rains in the division had caused damage to several villages and towns of Makran, he said. He said it while addressing in the National Assembly.

Trying to secure the federal government’s attention towards the losses in Balochistan, Mr Bhutani said that no doubt the Murree tragedy was a harrowing incident, and the people of Balochistan were equally a part of this tragic incident. Still, the recent rains brought destructions in Gwadar, Turbat, Ormara, Pasni and Lasbela. The rains had destroyed the houses of people. Thousands of dwellings were devastated owing to hefty rainfalls. The MNA further said they were thankful to the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Abdul Quddos Bizenjo, that Gwadar and Pasni were disaster-hit areas.

While turning to the house speaker, Aslam Bhutani said that he requested the federal government to support the Balochistan government in giving relief packages to the flood victims because the province had not ‘too many resources’ to work more on such packages. Government should help them, he said, to stand back on their feet.

Mr Bhutani said that Gwadar was the hub of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). He said that China’s 64 billion dollar investment was due to Gwadar. If the deep sea of Gwadar had not been there, he said, perhaps CPEC had not come. He added that China was making significant profits due to the project, but the people of Gwadar were compelled to live without shoes and roofs.

He further said that the entire Turbat and Gwadar districts must be declared as disaster-hit areas. The federal government should help the provincial government enhance relief works in these areas.
