Prolonged congestion on roads becoming nuisance in federal capital

ISLAMABAD: Increased automobile traffic and extended road congestion caused by a lack of a comprehensive transportation system are becoming a nuisance in the federal capital, with commuters stranded for hours on the city’s busiest thoroughfares during peak hours.

Despite the efforts of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to make the city beautiful again, the lack of an efficient and safe public transportation system has overshadowed the capital’s beauty, according to Akram Shah, a G-7/1 resident.

“Traffic jams have become a daily annoyance,” he continued, “and no one wants to see Islamabad’s makeover while stuck in traffic.” “It appears that the city’s peak hours have grown significantly.”

Shah expressed remorse for the discourteous behaviour and attitude of the so-called local transport conductors.

“I used to travel between Aapbara market and Faizabad. Not only did the van conductor misbehave with me, but he also pushed me to sit in an already crowded van “he stated

Women, children, and the elderly are once again the most vulnerable and are at the whim of inconvenient local transportation.

Masooma, a small girl, remembered how a conductor misled her into boarding the train when she planned to travel in the opposite way.

She also stated that public transportation overcrowding was a serious worry, and that many females, including herself, avoided travelling in such inconvenient modes of transportation in the capital.

“Women are usually given the front seat with the driver, and passengers are crammed into the van like hens, which is unethical and terrible,” a frequent traveller remarked.

Shahid Udas stated that the bulk of the city’s public transportation was inaccessible to those with disabilities. A few transgender people have also complained about being humiliated and mistreated by local transporters.

Another female, who requested anonymity, told APP that she was constantly harassed by a van driver throughout the ride. “I was sitting directly next to the driver, and as he shifted the gear lever, he constantly caressed my body. I tried to move aside, but due to the traffic and the presence of other passengers, I was unable to do so.”

The Deputy Commissioner Islamabad has suspended the route permit of a van driver who had written disrespectful and abhorrent words designed to harass women on the windshield of his vehicles, according to Sheewar Abid, a social media user.
