Medium welcomes AI-written posts

Medium welcomes AI-written posts. Online digital publisher Medium has declared that it will gladly accept articles written by ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence services. Users must identify and credit the author and give due credit to the AI service, according to the platform’s requirement.

Medium lets anyone create their own blog while selling memberships with exclusive pieces. In a blog post, Scott Lamb, Medium VP of content, shared a post stating that the company “welcomes the responsible use of AI-assistive technology on Medium”.

Lamb emphasised that this was only a “initial approach” and that the strategy might adjust as technology develops.

Lamb said, “We believe that creating a culture of disclosure, where the shared expectation of good citizenship is that AI-generated content is disclosed, empowers readers. It allows them to choose their own reaction to, and engagement with, this kind of work, and clearly understand whether a story is machine- or human-written”.

Medium welcomes AI-written posts, the undisclosed posts won’t be deleted, but they won’t be featured in recommendations on Medium. The publishing platform won’t check published works for text produced by AI.

The usage of AI writing tools has been prohibited by several authors and publications on Medium, according to The Verge. Buzzfeed is one of the numerous digital media outlets that have adopted ChatGPT and other AI writing tools.
