After the data leak of Gen Bjawa, three Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) employees were granted bail on Friday by a special court in the case involving the “illegal and unjustified” disclosure of the tax details of former army leader General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa and his family.

Shahzad Niaz, Arshad Ali, and Adeel Ashraf, three FBR officers, were ordered by Special Judge Azam Khan to post Rs. 50,000 surety bonds as a condition of their release in the data leak case of Gen Bajwa.

A municipal court in the federal capital in the same case accepted journalist Shahid Aslam’s bail request on January 18.

On January 14, a district and sessions court granted the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) custody of the journalist for a two-day physical remand.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar had on November 21 last year taken notice of the “illegal and unwarranted” leakage of tax information Gen (retd) Bajwa’s family.

“This is clearly a violation of the complete confidentiality of tax information that the law provides,” a statement from the Finance Division read.

A day later, Dar shared that he has received the interim report related to the leak of Gen (retd) Bajwa’s income tax records, adding that the authorities have traced some people involved in the act.

Qamar Javed Bajwa is a retired Pakistani army general who served as the tenth chief of the army staff of Pakistan from 29 November 2016 to 29 November 2022. In 2018 he was ranked 68th in the Forbes list of the World’s Most Powerful People.
