Punjab government aims to introduce modernized traffic control system

Hasaan Khawar, a Punjab government official, said on Monday that the state will soon implement a modernised traffic control system to help tourists navigate the region.

He told PTV news that the Punjab government will establish a better system by identifying the shortcomings in the current one, which culminated in the tragedy in Murree, which killed 22 lives.

He also emphasised the urgent need to modernise the “regulatory structure” and implement traffic improvements, as well as the Rescue 1122 for improved emergency management.

Through media platforms, the government will soon launch an awareness campaign to educate people about the route and travel during snowfall, as well as a safe journey to tourist destinations in the winter, according to Khawar.

In response to a question, he stated that all roads are being cleared, and a travel advise for people would be released soon once all departments have been consulted.

Over 500 households in the calamity-hit Murree were evacuated and transferred to safety on Sunday, according to Punjab police. Separately, army rescuers blocked routes around the hill station, which was home to tens of thousands of visitors.

In the meantime, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has asked the Rawalpindi Division Commissioner to take legal action against hoteliers who have overcharged tourists.

Those who raised the costs of food and room rents, according to CM Buzdar, should face legal penalties.

He claimed that overpricing is tantamount to theft and that the government will not accept it. The minister stated that the local government should take steps to guarantee that sellers at tourist attractions adhere to price lists.
