Government extends the ban of tourists for next 24 hours

ISLAMABAD: The federal government declared on Sunday that the highways between Islamabad and Murree and Galiyat will be closed for the next 24 hours.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad also issued a notification in this regard.

The ban on utilising roadways in Murree and Galiyat will be extended for another 24 hours, according to a notification.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed had previously stated that people of Murree and the surrounding areas would only be allowed to travel on certain highways if they presented their national identity cards.

He stated that any decision to enable tourists to visit Murree and Galiyat will be taken when the current situation was assessed.

At least 22 tourists who were stranded in their automobiles owing to heavy snowfall died in Murree on Friday night as a result of the terrible weather.

The hill station has been deemed a calamity-hit region, with army personnel sent in to rescue visitors who are still stranded there, according to Divisional Emergency Officer Abdul Rehman.

Tourists from Karachi, Lahore, Mardan, and other locations were among those died.
