The 1st AI lawyer robot to defend speeding tickets in court. The AI will instruct defendants on how to respond to their assigned judges. “The law is almost like code and language combined, so it’s the perfect use case for AI,” said CEO and founder Joshua Browder while talking to USA Today.

“I think that this is the biggest potential for GPT and large language model technology,” he added.

In the courtroom, Donotpay intends to provide defendants with Bluetooth-enabled earpieces as the AI whispers instructions on what to say. In the forthcoming case, one defendant will appear in person, and the other will do so via Zoom.

AI will be deployed in the courtroom for the first time in this case. Since 80% of low-income people cannot afford legal representation, Browder thinks that the experiment will loosen the restrictions on the use of AI.

DonotPay has been in business since 2015 and has distributed templates and bots that can negotiate bills with businesses like Comcast using GPT. These tools have helped consumers appeal parking tickets or request refunds from airlines.

Regarding the dangers, Bowder stated that the firm will pay any fines and the defendants will be compensated for taking part in the experiment.
