A significant development in “religious tourism” was made in Lahore on Friday when a group of 25 motorcycles travelled by road to Saudi Arabia to do the Umrah.

To get to Makkah the cyclists must go more than 14,000 kilometres.

At Lahore’s Qaddafi Stadium, officials of the Tourism Development Corporation of Punjab (TDCP) and representatives of Iran’s Khana Farhang (culture centre) were present as the group of motorcycles set out on their voyage.

According to the TDCP, the group of bikers will visit Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq, and their prime focus will be to visit main cultural, religious, and tourist attractions in the countries.

According to the bikers, they are travelling with the mission of promoting peace, brotherhood, and friendship.

For this mission, they have conducted extensive research before embarking on this journey.

Moreover, the bikers also revealed that they have ensured all necessary security arrangements needed for the journey.

Here’s their footage:

The Umrah is an Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca, the holiest city for Muslims, located in the Hejazi region of Saudi Arabia.

It can be undertaken at any time of the year, in contrast to the Ḥajj, which has specific dates according to the Islamic lunar calendar.
