Junaid Safdar confirms he is not joining politics ‘for now’.
Muhammad Junaid Safdar, the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s grandson, on Friday said that he will not be participating in any political activities as he confirmed that he had moved to the country.
Safdar took to Instagram to clarify that he has moved to Pakistan “purely to be of service” to his “parents, family and community”.
He further emphasised that he is not interested in pursuing politics “for now”, adding that he had missed the winter weather in Lahore.
This social media post aimed to clear the rumours that Safdar would assist his mother and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz in the upcoming general elections.
Earlier this week, Maryam Nawaz was appointed as the party’s senior vice president.
The decision was approved by PML-N President and Pakistan’s PM Shehbaz Sharif, who also appointed Maryam as the party’s “chief organiser” and tasked her with the “restructuring” and “reorganisation” of the party at “all levels”.
Additionally, party leader Nawaz Sharif was named the lifetime “Quaid” (leader) by amendments to the party’s constitution.
In view of the proposed amendment, the PML-N and its president, PM Shehbaz, would be required to follow the instructions of the party’s “Quaid” on certain issues.
