Federal government denies funds to SJIT investigating Arshad Sharif’s murder

According to reports, the federal government refused to provide funding for the special joint investigation team (SJIT), which was established to look into the killing of well-known journalist Arshad Sharif in Kenya. Meanwhile, it’s been claimed that the Kenyan Embassy in Islamabad also declined the SJIT’s request to set up talks with the case’s connected police personnel.

The federal government denies funds to SJIT investigating Arshad Sharif’s murder. The interior ministry was asked to grant Rs. 10 million to cover travel and lodging expenses for the special joint investigation team’s (SJIT) mission to Kenya and Dubai, the places Mr. Sharif visited before his murder, but the request was denied, according to a report released today.

According to the reports, the federal interior ministry invoked a “blanket ban” on travel abroad by government employees in order to deny the SJIT’s request.

The Kenyan Embassy, on the other hand, declined the investigators’ request to set up discussions with police officers connected to the case.

According to the sources, the SJIT had planned a trip to Kenya for the first week of January and had contacted the embassy for visas and meetings through the Foreign Officer.

The embassy declined the request, claiming that the case’s officials were on New Year’s vacation and would probably report back to work after January 15.

According to the sources, the SJIT will submit a new request for meetings and visas through the FO after January 15.
