ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has reported 1,293 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the largest number in two months, as officials warned of a fifth wave of infections and made plans to limit the fast-spreading Omicron form.
According to the latest numbers released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), a total of 51,045 samples were tested during this time period, with 1,293 proving positive, resulting in a national positivity rate of 2.52 percent, down from 2.32 percent yesterday.

The number of people who have died as a result of the pandemic has risen to 28,961 after six more people died from the virus in the last 24 hours.
Currently, there are 609 COVID-19 patients in critical care at various hospitals around the country.
The immunisation programme against the pandemic has been stepped up in response to the development of COVID-19 cases in the country.
According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), up to 160 million people in the country have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
So far, 72,995,114 people have received both COVID-19 doses, whereas 98,863,864 have received only one dose of the vaccine.
