Chicken meat price alarmingly high; check the latest price

As soybean shipments remained stalled at ports, Lahore’s demand for poultry meat increased, pushing the price of meat to an alarming high of Rs509 per kg.

According to local media reports, the price of poultry meat has soared by Rs60 per kg in a matter of days, while eggs are selling for Rs274 per dozen.

In the midst of the sharp increase, concerned citizens chastised the district government for taking no action against overcharging and leaving consumers at the mercy of sellers.

In previous months, chicken meat was sold for Rs370-400, but the recent wave of inflation and soybean shortage has pushed the poultry sector to the brink of collapse.

Last month, a federal cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif discussed the soybean shipments stuck at the Karachi ports and mulled strategies to counter the situation.

Reports suggest that officials decided to form a committee under the convenorship of the Minister for National Food Security and Research to give recommendations to the cabinet.
